Car rental in Serbia without a credit card or deposit
Many travellers from Russia and the CIS cannot use a card for the deposit. Here are the options that exist: every company has its own terms.
Why companies take a deposit
The deposit covers possible damage, fines and fuel. It is usually blocked on the driver's bank card and released after the car is returned. How payment works in general: payment and deposit.
Is it possible without a card
Some companies accept a cash deposit, others require a card. A rental with no deposit at all is rare and, as a rule, means buying insurance with a minimal excess or paying a higher daily price.
Options that exist
A cash deposit in euros, a card from a bank in another country (including one opened in Serbia, Kazakhstan or elsewhere), a virtual card from a foreign bank, extra insurance that reduces the deposit. Not every company accepts virtual cards. How extra cover lowers the deposit: rental insurance.
Cards from Russian banks
Visa and Mastercard issued by Russian banks, as a rule, do not work abroad, and Mir cards are not accepted everywhere in Serbia. Do not count on them when you book.
