Fuel and petrol stations in Serbia

Which fuel to buy, how to pay at the station and what to check in your rental car before you leave.

Which fuel your car needs

The fuel type is in the contract and usually on the fuel cap. Filling the wrong fuel (petrol instead of diesel or the other way round) is not covered by insurance, so at your first stop check the label and ask an attendant if you are unsure. What to check in the car at pick-up: the checklist.

What the fuel is called

Petrol 95 is labelled BMB 95 and diesel is called Evrodizel (Euro diesel). Some stations also sell higher-octane petrol (BMB 100) and autogas (TNG). Use autogas only if the car is built for it.

Station networks

The largest network in Serbia is NIS (the NIS Petrol and Gazprom brands). You will often see OMV, MOL, Lukoil, EKO and others. Stations on the main roads are open round the clock; in small towns and in the countryside the hours are shorter.

How to pay

Most stations accept bank cards and cash. Cards issued by Russian banks, as a rule, do not work abroad, so keep cash in dinars and a card from a foreign bank. Many stations also sell and top up the electronic TAG device for toll roads. On paying tolls: toll roads.

Fuel prices

Fuel prices in Serbia change every week, so we do not give them here. Check the current figures at the station or on the operator's website. Before you return the car, check in the contract what fuel level it must have.

Choose the city and dates: the price has no hidden fees. The contract is signed directly with the rental company.
