Documents to rent a car in Serbia

What to bring and what to check before you go if you are arriving from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan or another CIS country.

What you need at pick-up

Your passport, the original driving licence (not a copy or a photo) and a way to pay the deposit. You sign the rental contract with the rental company; we pass on your request and help with communication in Russian.

Driving licence and international permit

According to the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a foreigner who is in the country temporarily may drive on a valid national licence or an international driving permit.

Many rental companies ask for an international driving permit (IDP) in addition to the national licence. Modern licences usually repeat the data in Latin letters, but whether they are accepted without an IDP is up to the company. We check this before confirming your request.

Driving experience and age

Companies usually require one to three years of driving experience and a minimum age of 21 to 25. Powerful cars and large motorcycles have stricter requirements, and motorcycles need the right licence category (A1, A2 or A). The exact terms are shown on each vehicle page.

For Russians, Belarusians and Kazakhstanis

The rental terms are set by the company, not by nationality, but before booking it is worth checking whether it accepts licences from your country and whether an IDP is needed.

Entry and stay rules for citizens of different countries change. Check current information on the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website (mfa.rs) before you travel.

If you live in Serbia

For residents, the rules on using a foreign licence may differ from those for tourists and depend on your status. Ask the police (MUP) or a lawyer; it also affects the rental terms.

Pick a car

Choose the city and dates: the price has no hidden fees. The contract is signed directly with the rental company.
